From WOLF to ALPHA: Letting Go- A Time to Grow

Letting go of what no longer serves us in life is essential to enjoying the present moment and moving forwards with peace and purpose. As part of the “From WOLF to ALPHA” process, we have discussed the worries, obstacles, limiting beliefs, and failures from our pasts, and how they shape our present realities, and consequently, our perceptions of what is yet to come. Identifying our inner WOLF allows us to take an honest look at ourselves, what makes us tick, and more importantly, what we can learn from our past and what we should let go to enjoy the present.
“The past doesn’t define us. It’s what we do here and now, today, that does. This world was built on second chances.” ~ Karina Halle
There is a lot to unpack from this powerful quote. For starters, we have to own our pasts, take accountability for what has been said and done, but we do not have to let it dictate what we do in the here and now. Statistically, second marriages tend to have a lower rate of success than first marriages. A major contributing factor for this is that individuals often carry emotional baggage and unresolved issues from their previous relationship, into the new one, effectively letting their past negatively impact their present and future happiness. A failed marriage or long-term relationship can be a major hurdle to get past, however, you can choose to look at it through a different lens and take the lessons of what worked and what clearly did not with you. It is in your best interest to do so, as it will allow you to identify how you, yourself, can change for the better, and what is perhaps a more ideal partner for you as well. This method of reflection and application can be used in all aspects of your life! Below is a terrific article with stories about the importance of learning to let go and to seize the current moment. Remember, all we have is today, tomorrow is not a given and our past has been already written.
Before we get into our activity, which will require you to tap into your inner artist, I wanted to share a beautiful poem by John Greenleaf Whittier entitled “The Art of Letting Go” to provide you with a bit of inspiration.
Oh, to be free, from the chains that bind,
To release the weight that weighs the mind.
To heal the heart, and ease the soul,
To find the strength, to make us whole.
Let go of sorrow, pain, and regret,
Embrace the future, and never forget.
For in the art of letting go, we find,
A sense of peace, left far behind.
John Greenleaf Whittier

In the comment section below, feel free to share your work from the activity so others can be inspired by your strength. Thank you for sticking with me and continuing your journey on becoming an ALPHA. Please check out my next post, From WOLF to ALPHA- “A plan for action.” Remember that letting go, doesn’t mean forgetting where you have been, it just means you have decided to not let it keep you from where you want to be.
